What Happens in an Alexander Lesson?

A typical lesson lasts between 40-45 minutes. With each lesson the student gains a better understanding of how to perform a variety of everyday movements such as sitting, walking, bending or lying down.

The teacher directs and guides the student in the activities with words and with her hands.

The student can then learn to recognize and change any habits which interfere with optimal balance, efficient breathing, co-ordination, and flexibility.

Learning to be comfortable in your body leads to increased energy and well-being, freedom from stress and a new poise and grace which benefits all aspects of life.

How Long Does It Take To Learn The Alexander Technique?

The skills you learn from the Alexander Technique benefit you for a lifetime. Ten lessons will give you an understanding of the principles of the Alexander Technique. After twenty to thirty lessons you will be able to apply these principles in your daily life.

Basic changes can be experienced in a few lessons. The longer a student studies the technique, the more he will learn. As in learning a musical instrument, a person can be satisfied to know a few scales or simple tunes or motivated to master entire concertos.
