What is The Alexander Technique?
"The Alexander Technique gives us all things we have been looking for
in a system of physical education: relief from strain due to
maladjustment, and constant improvement in physical and mental health. We cannot
ask for more from any system; nor, if we seriously desire to alter human
beings in a desirable direction, can we ask for any less.î
Aldous Huxley, Writer

The Alexander Technique is the discovery by F. Mattias Alexander of the natural rhythm within the human body which becomes distorted in humans due to the stresses of daily life, leading to discomfort and ill-health. Most of us are born with a natural co-ordination which becomes distorted due to imitating the poor habits of those around us, accidents and other uncomforable or stressful situations. The Alexander Technique is a method for becoming aware of how we are interferring with the good use of our bodies in everyday activities and for learning how to prevent such misuse.
This learning process is a voyage of self-discovery where a pupil can learn to apply his new knowledge to the solution of his own problems and become his own expert in the use of himself.
The Alexander Technique is a method for learning how to use the body intelligently and gracefully for the benefit of improved health. It teaches us to find freedom, ease and openess in the body so that it can move with maximum efficiency.
Aldous Huxley described the Alexander Technique as "a type of education affecting the entire range of human activity, from the physiological, through the intellectual, moral, and practical, to the spiritual."
